Sometimes the right dog simply needs the right family.

After spending nearly two years with his original family, Kilo has returned to Sterley Shepherds through no fault of his own. He lived with two other dogs, but over time he and one of the dogs were no longer a good match. After careful consideration, his family made the difficult decision to return him so we could find the home where he can be most successful.

Our goal isn't to find Kilo just any home—it's to find the right home, where he will be loved, understood, and cherished for the rest of his life. Here's a closer look at the wonderful dog Kilo is and the type of home where we believe he'll thrive.

Kilo's Ideal Home

To help Kilo be as successful as possible, we're looking for a home that understands German Shepherds and is committed to continuing his training.

• We believe Kilo will be most successful as the only dog in the home.

• Unsure how he is with cats.

• We recommend a home with older children due to his size.

• Would benefit from a refresher on his overall obedience and continued work on leash manners.

• Can be vocal when meeting new people but settles once he knows they are friends.

• Can be reactive toward unfamiliar dogs, so continued training and thoughtful management will help set him up for success.

Finding Kilo's Forever Home

Kilo is not available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Our responsibility isn't to find Kilo a home quickly—it's to find him the right home.

All prospective adopters are asked to complete our application before being considered. This helps us get to know you, your family, your lifestyle, and the home you can provide for Kilo.

We carefully screen every potential adopter because we want to ensure Kilo's next placement is a lifelong one. We encourage prospective families to ask questions, take their time, and make sure it's the right fit for everyone involved.

If, after careful consideration, we don't feel a home is the best match for Kilo, we will continue our search.

We owe him nothing less.

Our greatest hope is that Kilo's next home will be his last.
