About Sterley Shepherds

Dedicated to Raising Exceptional Long-Haired German Shepherds

At Sterley Shepherds, we are a small, passionate breeder located in Newaygo, Michigan, committed to producing West German show line long-haired German Shepherds that embody the best qualities of the breed—loyalty, intelligence, structure, and beauty.

Our breeding program is built on a foundation of imported, health-tested dogs with top-tier European bloodlines. Every sire and dam is carefully selected for their temperament, health, and conformation to ensure each puppy has the potential to be a confident, well-rounded companion or working partner.

Our Breeding Philosophy

We believe that a great German Shepherd starts with exceptional care from day one. Our puppies are raised  with daily interaction and love. We use proven early development techniques like:

  • Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)

  • Early Scent Introduction (ESI)

  • Crate and Potty Training Foundations

These methods create puppies that are social, resilient, and eager to learn.

Why Families Choose Us

  • Health Guarantee: Every puppy is backed by a written health guarantee

  • Lifetime Support: We are always available to help you with training, care, and questions

  • Transparency: We share photos, videos, and regular updates throughout your puppy’s early weeks

  • Raised with Love: Each litter is raised with daily handling, around children and other pets

A Lifelong Commitment

Bringing a German Shepherd into your home is a lifelong commitment—and so is our commitment to you. At Sterley Shepherds, we’re proud to match our puppies with loving families who understand and appreciate the incredible bond a Shepherd offers.

The hand of a breeder... ❤ A breeder's hand is the hand that calms the female dog at birth. It's the hand that caresses her belly to soothe her during contractions. A breeder's hand is the hand that clears the path so the puppies can be born easier. It's the hand that doesn't shake even if it's full of blood to help a puppy in trouble. A breeders hand is the hand that opens the fruit shell and separates the umbilical cord if mom doesn't do it fast enough. It's the hand that rubs the puppy dry and gives the puppy his first breath. A breeder's hand is also the one who lovingly pet a puppy and wipes away tears when the puppy didn't make it into life despite all the efforts. A breeder's hand is the one who cleans mom and puppies several times a day and checks if everyone is ok. Who weighs the puppies daily, provides the mom with good food and by the way, somehow also takes care of her own household and takes care of the pack. A breeder's hand often has to rub tired eyes and straighten the worries on his forehead because the mother has enough milk only after several days and until then he has to worry about his puppies life. It's the hand that prepares milk vials for every 2 hours, feeds puppies and rubs the bellies to help digestion get going. A breeder's hand is the one who barely finds peace at night for 3 weeks, is only there for mom and pups, and every weight gains are content in the weight table. A breeder's hand is the one who prepares the first solid food, feeds puppies regularly for 5 more weeks, keeps the camp clean, plays with puppies, teaches them the little 1 x1 of life, puppies slowly from the Mother weaned, first contacts with puppy prospects and is often restless because decisions have to be made that will determine the life of puppies. The hand of a breeder is the one who answers many questions from the new dog parents in advance, sends them pictures and videos, prepares the farewell and does everything in advance to make sure that he gets away without a problem. A breeder's hand is the one who puts his first own collar on the puppy and wipes away the breeder's tear when he leaves. The breeder's hand is also the one who regularly picks up the phone or writes or answers the mails and inquires about the well-being of all dogs sold. answered many questions and helps solve problems. It's also the one who puts the money from selling in the dog storage box, knowing that there is often little effort and soon new expenses will be incurred to continue the breeding, because a loving and responsible breeder doesn't get rich through the breeding. , other places also want to have a share of it..... A breeder's hand is also the one that keeps his eyes closed, so that you don't see the tears he sheds when he is hostile and blamed for health or other problems he is not responsible for. But a breeder's hand is also the one who feels the breeder's heart beating happily when his dogs and puppies are doing well and he sees satisfied puppy parents. Please think of all this the next time you shake your breeder's hand and please remember that a good breeder escorts his bred dogs to the end of their life, always cares about them and that there is nothing better for him than on Being able to share these dogs lives and rejoice when they are doing well. Contact

We loved our first Sterley Shepherd so much that we got a second 7 months later! Michelle is the best! Very supportive, even two years later when I have questions regarding our dogs. We will never go to another breeder.
